im not a huge book reader, but when i was in tokyo, i had to visit the flagship store of kinokuniya. the best book collections in tokyo there…
the only book i ended up buying this time was the autobiography by Yohji Yamamoto “Dear Bomb”. i found out this book is out on amazon in english too, but i really dont think it will be halft as good as his original words in japanese. not only i can relate to his descriptive and personal emotions as an artist/designer he expresses in this book, but i also fell in love with him all over again through his wording in japanese, so beautiful and so amazing.

i posted this video as current tunes back in 2007, but i have to post it again. i have been nostalgic since i have been in tokyo, been attracted to the early 2000s design style all over again.
here is matthew herbert, i used to listen to him all the time back then. this video inspired my portfolio book, if you’ve ever seen it. still so good. (it gets really good by 1:50)

what were you listening to you when you were 13?
i have been very nostalgic lately with my tunes, maybe since i am so excited to go to tokyo, i’ve been revisiting the times when i was a teenager living in tokyo.
i think i was about 13, this is the time i also got my now 14 years old shitzu in 1999, the most amazing loving dog, whom i named “Chara”, after this japanese singer i was obsessed with at the time. if you know me, my AIM name, some emails, usernames on instagram etc all say reinachara.
and yes, that chara comes from my dog, and also from this singer.
ive been listening to her album all over again. i like her early albums from 1998 and 1999, “junior sweet” and “strange fruits”.
and one of my favorite songs from “junior sweet”
PS. this is my loving shitzu- chara. she lives in motherland tokyo now after living in seoul, korea and cairo egypt… doesn’t she look like the singer chara??

so i was shown this video around xmas, and ever since then, ive been hearing this song everywhere.
i’ve definitely graduated from the whole ‘hipster’ subculture, you know the quirky graphic t-shirts that don’t make any sense, cut off denim shorts, vintage grandma sweaters, tattoos, and being overall sooo… “rebellious”.
to me, that stuff is not sexy anymore.
but i read the nymag article on her , and i have to say, not only i love her sarcastic take on the cliche new york ‘hipster’ look, but she is just simply catchy and cute.
rock that micky mouse sweater, girl.

ok i admit it. i am obsessed lately.
not only with literally everything he designs and everything he just does, but with himself as a person.
